From the Michelle’s Angels Prayer List: Colin Martin
by Kihm Winship
A few months ago, Colin Martin, a rap music artist from Nashville, was in a motorcycle accident. In the minutes and hours that followed, his heart stopped twice. Doctors at Vanderbilt Hospital were forced to amputate his leg, but through multiple transfusions and operations, they managed to save his life.
Amazingly, his extraordinary spirit has emerged undaunted. When asked about what he has been through, he said, “I guess this is how God wants me to be.” And his greatest ambition now? Just as it was before his accident: to help others.
“I fully intend to help a lot of kids who would not otherwise have a chance. I’m working with people in Australia, the Netherlands, Ireland, Poland, and all over the United States. I can show someone how to go from complete despair and hopelessness to hope and happiness; that’s what I do best. I take people with wracking dilemmas and show them a route which will solve their problem, if they choose that route.”
Colin can and will help others because he knows where they are coming from – he has been there himself. “I’ve done a lot of the wrong things to learn the right things,” he writes, “so my learning was by way of consequence rather than virtue. I’ve been suicidal and homicidal – If one kid doesn’t have to go through that, I’m in.”
When asked when and how he turned his life around, Colin wrote, “I had lost everything I had, all of my worldly possessions. Spiritually, I was bankrupt inside, and I was morally broken, and mentally done. A lot of people helped me up from down there. My role now is to be a bridge between the new and old school rappers, set an example of the right track, do as much stuff with as many people as I can, and reach out and help kids today who have no leadership in their lives.”
Word of mouth tells us that Colin has set a new record for visitors at Vanderbilt Hospital, more than 3,000, but every prayer matters. His hospital bills are up to $253,000 and he faces six more months of care and physical therapy. Please hold him in your prayers. You can write Colin at:
